As Director of the Centre for Health Research, Laura leads a team of 25 researchers using diverse research methods to investigate health and social care including biomedical surveys and policy-related research.
Laura came to NatCen from the University of Bristol where she was Associate Professor in Nutrition responsible for leading research teams, designing and managing data collection, and innovating methods for data capture and analysis.
Her previous research ranges from investigating diet-disease associations to exploring the broad range of biological, social and psychological factors that influence food intake and appetite control. Laura has expertise in innovating passive dietary assessment methods including wearable devices and biomarkers. She studied Human Biology (Loughborough University), Genetic Epidemiology (MSc. University of Sheffield) and Nutritional Epidemiology (PhD. University of Cambridge). Laura is an honorary Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences in the University of Bristol Medical School, and a visiting researcher in the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit at the University of Cambridge.
