Alice Stephens

Alice is a Research Director in the Health Policy team and has multiple years of experience in quantitative and mixed method research design and delivery, joining NatCen in 2024. Since joining NatCen she has managed mixed-methods studies and evaluations and conducted in-depth interviews, focus groups and secondary analysis. Alice has managed projects with a wide range of topics including gambling harms and health data use and is currently leading on the Evaluation of the Gambling Act Review for the Gambling Commission and the Department for Culture Media and Sport.
Prior to NatCen she gained extensive experience in mental health and stakeholder management, leading complex and large-scale research projects within academia and industry. She has conducted a global mapping of large-scale longitudinal datasets with the potential for transformative research on depression, anxiety and psychosis, leading the evaluation for datasets across Europe and the Pacific. She has extensive experience in quantitative research, with specific expertise in using longitudinal data to identify risks and protective factors for depression. Alice led the development of a risk prediction tool for identifying individuals most at risk of depression and conducted qualitative research to evaluate this tool. She has experience in digital health in Attentional Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), liaising with clinicians across the globe and parents of children with ADHD, to inform product development. Alice holds an MSc in Psychology of Education from Bristol University.
