Bernard Steen
Bernard is a Research Director in the Communities, Work and Income team. He is a mixed-methods researcher, designing and delivering complex surveys, qualitative projects, evidence reviews, and evaluations.
He works across a wide range of policy areas, but focuses primarily on employment, income, benefits and disability. He led the evaluation of the Inclusive Transport Strategy for the Department for Transport, and is currently leading the evaluation of the Cost of Living Payments for the Department of Work and Pensions.
Bernard is responsible for teaching NatCen’s internal report writing course, and is the lead editor of our flagship Society Watch 2024 report. He also teaches evidence review methods, both internally and externally.
