Drawing on NatCen’s long standing expertise in research methods, NatCen International provides tailored and contextualised training courses on a wide range of research methods and social policy areas with specific focus on low and middle income countries (LMICs) as well as fragile and conflict-affected contexts.

The following courses are available:

We recently delivered this course for the Sana'a Center for Strategic Studies (SCSS) as part of a broader comprehensive training programme of courses tailored to the Yemeni context.

The "Introduction to Qualitative Research Methods" module was crafted to guide participants through the steps of research design, emphasising a conflict-sensitive approach. This course covers essential aspects such as data collection, management, and analysis, ensuring that participants are well-versed in ethical considerations pertinent to conducting research in their specified region. Through interactive sessions, practical workshops, and continuous tutor feedback, participants will learn to design and implement qualitative research projects that are both ethically sound, methodologically robust and contextually relevant to the region or country as a whole.

The "Introduction to Economics" module provides a thorough grounding in both macro- and micro-economic principles. The course aims to impart a clear understanding of fundamental economic concepts, including GDP measurement, aggregate supply and demand, fiscal policy, and monetary policy.

When delivering our work for the Sana’a Center, this course was contextualised to the Yemeni economy. Participants engaged in detailed discussions about the Central Bank crisis in Yemen, exploring the broader implications of macroeconomic instability on socio-economic conditions. The module also delved into microeconomic topics such as market structures, supply chain disruptions, and food insecurity, offering practical insights into the functioning of markets and the role of political economy analysis in addressing Yemen’s war economy.
