Well-off Traditionalists

The Well-off Traditionalists are a highly politically engaged and predominantly Conservative group of voters, with views that align closely with traditional socially conservative values.

Political views

Economically right wing, Well-off Traditionalists dislike the prospect of redistribution, believe the trade unions are too powerful, want low spending on welfare benefits, and many would like lower taxes on high earners. At the same time, they are sceptical about equal opportunities policies, concerned about immigration, and they’re not supportive of spending on welfare. They are proud of Britain and voted to Leave the EU, though they now have their doubts about how Brexit is working out.

Characteristics

The Traditionalists are predominantly older white men who own their own home and feel financially comfortable. They’re likely to be White British, and to describe themselves as religious. Many live in the countryside, and they’re overrepresented in Southeast England.
