The Business Administration Apprenticeship (equivalent to two A-levels) is an 18-month programme, designed to provide an opportunity to gain valuable practical work experience of what it is like to work for a social research organisation in all areas of business administrative support.  As an apprentice, you'll work and receive on-the-job training and divide your time between studying with experts in their field and putting your new skills to the test in the workplace, with experienced and multi-disciplinary teams. 

You will join our team and gain hands-on experience in a variety of business areas from Human Resources, Finance & Business Services to Data Collection and many more areas. The wide range of opportunities will involve working across our London and Romford offices, and our apprentices will be developing skills and helping to diversify our workforce. 

All apprentices will have a structured learning and development plan and have a rotational programme designed to ensure they gain work experience across all areas the organisation. The apprentices will have their base within the People Directorate and will be fully supported by a dedicated supervisor throughout the apprenticeship programme.

As an apprentice, the day-to-day work will revolve around developing and building administrative capabilities and customer service skills which will include: 

  • Working within the team to provide a professional, customer-focused service to all stakeholders.
  • Managing an inbox, sourcing responses, and responding to messages.
  • Supporting managers with routine admin tasks.
  • Note taking and diary management.
  • Support the preparation and dissemination of document packs and reports.
  • Maintaining accurate records on the database and internal NatCen systems.
  • Day to day administration.
