Privacy notice

This privacy notice explains how we will follow the regulations for protecting your data: the EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). It explains:

  • How the data will be used, stored and deleted, and who can access it;
  • The legal basis for gathering and processing the data; and
  • Who you can contact with a query or a complaint.

How data will be used, stored and deleted, and who has access it

We will treat information you provide in strictest confidence under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The results collected are used for research purposes only, to conduct an evaluation of the Yorkshire and Humber COVID-19 Compliance Pilot for the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).

Contact details: contact information received from DHSC during the research will be stored securely and only the research team at NatCen will have access to them. Contact details will only be passed to NatCen with your consent and no contact details will be shared by NatCen without your consent. The data will be deleted one year after the final report is agreed.

Survey data: all data gathered through the interviews conducted for this research will be stored securely and only the NatCen research team will have access to it in its full form. Interview data will be only be shared with DHSC once it has been summarised, anonymised and analysed alongside other responses. The data will be deleted one year after the final report is agreed.

Interview data and focus group data: interview and focus group notes and recordings (made with permission) and transcripts will be stored securely and only the research team at NatCen will have access to them. Interview data will be only be shared with the DHSC once it has been summarised, anonymised and analysed with other responses. The data will be deleted one year after the final report is agreed.

Scheme data: DHSC may share information or data about the pilot programme with NatCen; it will only do so via secure routes and will only share data that is relevant to the research. NatCen will store this data securely and will not share it with others. The data will be deleted one year after the final report is agreed.

Changes: You have the right to request that your data is amended, if it is not accurate, or that your data is deleted. Please email us at yhcovid@natcen.ac.uk to request this

Participation in the research is not compulsory and you have the right to withdraw at any stage. We hope that you will choose to take part.

Anonymity: When we report the research we will make sure we do not attribute findings to individuals, places of worship or community centres, local authorities or police forces. However, it is possible that assumptions could be made about where the findings have come from.  A researcher will check you are comfortable with your contribution after the interview. It is also possible to edit or remove your contribution in the fortnight after you take part in the survey, interview or focus group by emailing the research team: yhcovid@natcen.ac.uk

The legal basis for gathering and processing the data

DHSC is the data controller for this project. This means it is responsible for deciding the purpose and legal basis for gathering and processing the data.  For this project, the legal basis for processing data is ‘consent’ as you will be asked to provide your consent to take part.

The person who is responsible for making sure that the data is kept safe at NatCen is NatCen’s data protection officer. Legally, NatCen is known as the data processor and the basis for processing the data is ‘public task’.
