Maha Basharat
Maha is a Research Director in our Centre for Evaluation. She has expertise in the use of complex experimental and quasi-experimental methods and is particularly interested in female empowerment and child labour in the context of developing countries. Maha holds a Masters degree in Economics from University of Warwick and for her dissertation, she implemented instrumental variable technique to determine the impact of dowry on female empowerment in Bangladesh.
Before joining NatCen, she worked in the Cabinet Office of the Isle of Man where she worked closely with the politicians and helped inform complex decision making about different aspects of public policy by providing economic insight. She led the Economic Affairs Research programme which involved publishing a number of national level indicators for the Government as well as design and delivery of a range of national surveys for performance evaluation and policy development.
