Independent evaluation of the under 18s elements of the Distress Brief Intervention programme - Parents/Carers Interview Information Sheet
Why is this research being carried out?
The DBI programme is a short intervention offering support to people in distress who present to frontline services. To support prevention and early intervention for children and young people’s (CYP) mental health, the DBI service was extended to young people aged 16-17 years. In addition, DBI is testing the DBI service for young people aged 14 and over in 23 schools in Scotland.
As part of the evaluation, ScotCen is conducting interviews with people involved in the design and delivery of the service, as well as parent/carers of children and young people who access DBI. This research will be used by the Scottish Government to inform the continued development of the DBI under 18s programme.
Who is carrying out this research?
The Scottish Government has funded the Scottish Centre for Social Research (ScotCen) and University of Stirling to conduct an evaluation of the under 18s elements of the DBI programme.
Why have I been invited to take part?
As a parent or carer of a young person who has received support from DBI, we are interested to hear your views on this experience.
What will taking part involve?
Interviews will explore your views on the under 18s elements of DBI, including:
- views on the referral process for children and young people
- what difference, if any, the support from DBI has made
- suggested improvements to the design and delivery of the under 18s elements of DBI
Interviews will last approximately 60 minutes and will take place over the phone or video call (MS Teams or Zoom).
Why should I take part?
Sharing your views on the under 18s elements of DBI will help Scottish Government better understand how the service can be developed to support young people in the future. Taking part is completely voluntary. We are unable to offer a voucher for taking part, but we hope you will get involved and share your views.
Do I have to take part?
No, taking part is voluntary and you won't have to answer any questions you do not want to. You can withdraw at any time without giving a reason. There will be no consequences if you choose not to participate.
