On Saturday, 24 January 2026, researchers, policymakers, and community representatives will come together for the Fourth Roundtable Discussion on the Impacts of Climate Change on Outdoor Workers. The event is part of a Wellcome-funded research project led by NatCen, examining how climate change is affecting the health and wellbeing of precarious outdoor workers in Viet Nam’s urban areas.

The roundtable will bring together policymakers, government officials, trade union representatives, civil society organisations, journalists, and researchers working in social policy, environmental studies, and public health, alongside outdoor workers themselves. By creating space for dialogue between research, policy, and workers' lived experience, the event aims to support more inclusive, practical, and evidence-based responses to the health impacts of climate change.

During the discussion, the research team will share findings from two rounds of surveys (2024–2025) that explore how climate change is affecting the health, income, and working conditions of outdoor workers in major Vietnamese cities.

Participants will also be invited to discuss and provide feedback on Outdoor Workers’ Health Protection Toolkit, co-produced with outdoor workers, which offers practical guidance to help workers better protect their health in the face of climate-change-related extreme weather. Beyond sharing evidence and tools, the roundtable will provide a space for policy dialogue and collective problem-solving, exploring feasible interventions and policy responses to the escalating risks faced by outdoor workers.

The event also aims to strengthen collaboration among key stakeholders, with the longer-term goal of establishing a joint working group dedicated to improving health protection for outdoor workers in the context of climate change.
