People’s Voices Survey

We would like to invite you to take part in a study about your views and experience of using healthcare services in Scotland.

What is this study about?

This study is about healthcare services in Scotland. There are some questions about your own health, some about your use of healthcare services, and some about your opinions on healthcare services in Scotland, whether you have used them or not.

Why take part?

Your answers help ensure that the views of people like you are considered when making decisions about the future of health services in Scotland. This is important because we want to make health services work for everyone living in Scotland.

What will taking part involve?

You can complete the survey on a phone, tablet or laptop. It should take you around 20 to 30 minutes.

You will be asked a number of questions about your own health, your experiences of accessing healthcare services, and your views on healthcare services provided in Scotland. Some of the questions are about topics that people might find sensitive, so you may wish to find somewhere private to complete the survey.

Why have I been asked to take part?

We are interested in the views of people living in Scotland to help improve healthcare services. We want to hear from a wide range of different people in Scotland. We are interested in the views of migrants and adolescents as these groups are often under-represented in research conducted with the public. That is why we have separate surveys for migrants and adolescents as well as the general public.

Who is carrying out the research?

The Scottish Centre for Social Research (ScotCen), an independent research organisation, has been funded by Public Health Scotland to conduct a survey about views and experiences of using healthcare services in Scotland (the People’s Voice Survey).

This study is funded by NHS National Services Scotland under the co-fund partnership of Transforming Health and Care Systems, THCS (GA No 101095654 of the EU Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Program).

What will happen to any information I give?

We will treat the things you tell us in confidence, in accordance with data protection legislation. All information you give us will be stored safely and securely and used for research purposes only.

ScotCen will not share anything that could identify you with Public Health Scotland or anyone else. ScotCen will remove any identifying information collected from the survey and produce a pseudonymised dataset for Public Health Scotland. Pseudonymisation replaces personal information with aliases to make data sets more private. Pseudonymised data cannot be matched to an identifiable person unless it is combined with a separate set of information.

Public Health Scotland will analyse this data and use it to write several reports. These reports will not contain any information that could reveal your identity.
