Public Attitudes Towards Data Use in Statistics

This study explores public opinions on using health data for statistics, with the aim to gain insight into views on its use for statistical purposes.

About the study

The National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) is conducting a study funded by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to explore public attitudes toward using health data in statistics.  The aim of this research is to understand your views on how health data is used to create statistics.

This information sheet provides detailed information about the research to help you decide whether you would like to participate and share your perspectives.

Why take part and what will it involve?

If you choose to take part in this research, you will be invited to complete an online survey consisting of up to 20-30 questions, including some information about yourself (like age, gender ethnicity etc.). The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

This survey will help us to understand what people think about how health data is used to create statistics. Your views are important. By taking part, you will help the government to make decisions about how to use health data.

Why have I been selected to take part?

You may have been contacted by Yonder on behalf of NatCen to take part in this survey because we want to gather opinions from the general public about their views on sharing health information.

Who is carrying out the research?

This research is being carried out by NatCen and Yonder Consulting, a polling agency who will run the survey. NatCen is the largest independent, non-profit social research organisation in Britain.  Find out more at: https://natcen.ac.uk/
