Living in the UK survey - Interview

Established in 2001, the Living in the UK survey is part of one of the largest studies of values and opinions in the world.

About the study

The Living in the UK survey is a survey of social attitudes, beliefs and behaviours of individuals in European countries. This year we will ask for views on topics such as health, wellbeing, politics, education, fairness, discrimination, ethnic identity and immigration. The survey will be used to understand the opinions of people in the UK and how these have changed over time, and to see how opinions in the UK compare with opinions in other countries in Europe. The findings will inform policymakers and researchers, shaping decisions that affect us all.

Why take part and what will taking part with an interviewer involve?

One of our NatCen interviewers will visit your address to explain more about the study. To ensure you know who they are, all our interviewers carry an ID card. We will randomly select one person aged 15* or over from your address to take part in person.

Once you have completed the survey, we will send you a £10 Love2Shop voucher as a thank you for taking part.

*If you are under 18 years of age at the time of the interview, a parent or guardian will be asked for permission for you to participate. As a parent/guardian you can request to see the questionnaire in advance.

Is there another way to take part?

Unfortunately, participation in this study requires you to complete an in-person interview with an NatCen interviewer rather than online or through a paper questionnaire.
