Evaluation of the Five Family Payments

Before you decide to take part, we would like you to understand what taking part in the research means.

What is this study about?

The Scottish Centre for Social Research (ScotCen) is doing a survey evaluating the Five Family Payments for the Scottish Government.

The Five Family Payments are:

  • Scottish Child Payment
  • Best Start Foods
  • Best Start Grant (Pregnancy and Baby Payment, Early Learning Payment, School Age Payment)

We would like to invite you to answer a short survey. The survey will have questions about your experience with the payment(s), and if and how they have helped your family. Everyone who has received at least one of the payments can take part.

You have been invited to take part in a survey because you are currently receiving or have received one (or more) of the Five Family Payments.

Why is this research important?

The Scottish Government would like to know if and how the Five Family Payments are helping families. The research will help the Scottish Government understand whether the Five Family Payments are helping families with children.

Who is doing this study?

The Scottish Government is funding the study and ScotCen will be carrying out the research. ScotCen is an independent research agency and registered charity. You can find out more about us here: www.scotcen.org.uk.

How do I take part?

You can complete the survey online. It should take you around 10-15 minutes.

At the end of the survey, you will be asked if you would be interested in taking part in a one-to-one interview about your views on the Five Family Payments. If you take part in an interview, you will be given a £40 high street voucher as a thank you for taking part.

You can ask a relative, friend or carer to help you complete the survey. The answers should be from your own point of view.

If you require additional support to take part, you can call ScotCen on 0131 240 0210 to get help to complete the survey over the phone. Please tell the person who answers that your call is about the 'Five Family Payments Survey'. They will pass you to a member of the research team. The phone line is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
