PIP customers’ experiences of work, aspirations and support needs: Privacy Notice
In line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), this privacy notice explains how we will process your personal data, including the legal basis for processing, who will have access to your data, how it will be used, stored and deleted, and who to contact if you have any questions or complaints.
What is the legal basis for processing my data?
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is the data controller and NatCen is the data processor for this research. The DWP is responsible for deciding the purpose and legal basis for processing data from this study. The legal basis for processing data is ‘Public Task’.
Who will have access to my personal data?
Your data will be stored securely by NatCen in line with UK GDPR. Only the NatCen research team and McGowan, our trusted transcription provider, will have access to the information you share during the conversation.
NatCen holds your contact details because you took part in the Work Aspirations Survey in 2024 and agreed to be contacted about future research on this topic. We also hold the survey responses you provided as part of that study.
How will my information be used?
The data we collect will be used for research purposes only.
Data from the conversations will be analysed thematically. NatCen will write a report and presentation of findings for the DWP covering the main themes that have been discussed in the conversations. The report may include quotes of what you have said but will not include any identifiable information (such as names or locations).
The report will be published on the gov.uk website.
Data retention
All identifiable data stored by NatCen will be deleted 12 months after the research is complete. The project is estimated to finish in December 2026, meaning identifiable data will be deleted by December 2027.
Will I have access to the information I provide in the conversation?
You have until two weeks after your conversation takes place to withdraw from the research. You can do this by contacting the research team. Please note that once data has been anonymised and brought together for analysis, it may not be possible to remove your contribution, and we would not be able to change published research findings by removing individual information. However, you can always request that your personal data be deleted or updated, and we will let you know immediately whether or not this is possible.
