In this privacy notice, we explain the legal reason for data processing, what personal data we will collect, who will have access to your personal data, how your data will be used, when it will be deleted, and who you can contact about a query and complaint.
The legal reason for handling data
The National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) are the joint data processors and data controller for this project. As data controllers, NatCen is responsible for deciding the purpose and legal reason for handling data. This project is funded by GambleAware and delivered by NatCen (and partners). The legal reason for processing the data is ‘public task’.
What personal data will be collected?
Information collected in the interviews will include information about your experiences with gambling and the impacts of gambling on your life as well as your views of recovery from gambling harms. For the purpose of scheduling interviews and assessing eligibility to participate we will also collect your contact details and your answers to pre-interview screening questions.
Who will be able to access my data?
The project team at NatCen, The University of Plymouth and The University of Bristol will have access to your personal data listed above. McGowan Transcriptions is the service NatCen will use to write up the research interviews. They will have access to recordings and transcriptions from all interviews. NatCen will assign unique identifiers so individuals cannot be identified. McGowan Transcriptions is on NatCen’s approved supplier list and conforms to their information security policies. Transcripts will also be shared (via secure transfer) with the researchers in the wider research team (at the University of Plymouth and the University of Bristol) to support with analysis.
How will my data be treated?
The data we collect will be used for research purposes only. All personal information, and any other data held on the project, will be deleted by NatCen within six months of the project’s completion in Autumn 2025.
