Privacy notice: Addressing Inequality through Funds to Local Areas
In compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), there are certain things that NatCen needs to let you know about how your information will be handled as part of this research. In this privacy notice, we explain the legal reason for data processing, what personal data we will collect, who will have access to your personal data, how your data will be used, when it will be deleted, and who you can contact about a query and complaint.
1. The legal reason for handling data
NatCen Social Research (NatCen) are the data controller and processor for this project. As the data controller, NatCen are responsible for deciding the purpose and legal reason for handling the data. This research workshop is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and delivered by NatCen. The legal reasons for processing the data are ‘consent’ and ‘public task’ as specified under Article 6 (1)(a) and (e) of the UK GDPR.
2. What personal data will be collected?
NatCen will collect data at different stages of this research. At all stages you will be asked for your permission first.
If you are recruited to the research, The NatCen research team and the NatCen recruitment team will collect your contact and demographic data, as well as information about how you plan to attend in-person event and whether you need any support to do so. When you take part in the research, NatCen will also collect data about your views on the topics under discussion. This will consist of audio recordings of discussions which will be transcribed by a professional transcription company, written notes from the online and in-person workshop discussions made by the researchers, and data from interactive tools used during the workshop, such as whiteboards and post-it notes where you can share your thoughts.
NatCen will analyse this data to produce a report, but no names or identifying information will be included in the report or any other research output. NatCen will not share your contact details with third parties.
3. Who will be able to access my personal data?
The NatCen research team working on this project will have access to all data listed above in section 2, and the NatCen recruitment team working on this project will have access to the initial data collected when you are contacted. The wider project team, including researchers from the University of Birmingham and the University of Nottingham, will have access to the audio recordings of the discussions and the anonymised transcriptions. All files will be stored and shared securely.
4. How will my data be treated and stored?
The data we collect will be used for research only. It will be stored securely and accessible only to those described in section 3. Your personal details will be deleted or anonymised six months after the completion of the project. Who can I contact with a query or complaint?

Where we are processing your personal data with your consent, you have the right to access a copy of your personal data, ask for your personal data to be corrected, or ask for your personal data to be deleted up to two weeks after the workshop.
