Stephen Rule
Stephen joined NatCen in June 2022 as a senior researcher, based at ScotCen, and with a particular focus on the Scottish Health Survey. This entails tracking the physical and mental health of the people of Scotland, including diet, biometrics, and habits pertaining to regular exercise, drinking and smoking. The resultant data are continually utilised in the formulation and tweaking of national health policy and intervention.
Stephen is a political geographer (PhD, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg). He has managed large-scale representative household sample surveys in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda and Lesotho, and smaller qualitative studies across Southern Africa. His eclectic analytical interests and publications include social and political attitudes, population migration dynamics, voting behaviour, gambling, health, religion, and education policy.
