Ian Rivers

Professor Ian Rivers is currently an Associate Principal of the University of Strathclyde and the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He is a psychologist and educationalist with over 30 years’ experience in higher education, and remains an active researcher in the fields of education and equality, diversity, and inclusion. 

Ian has served on the boards of a number of charities and also served on the Strategic Advisory Network of the ESRC. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, the British Psychological Society, the Academy of Social Sciences, and the Royal Society of Edinburgh – Scotland’s National Academy of Science and Letters.

Ian will be taking up his role on NatCen's Board of Trustees from mid-November 2025.
