Charlotte Chalker

Charlotte is a Researcher in the Crime, Justice and Security team at the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen). Her research interests consist of youth justice, gender equality, online counter-extremism and conspiracy theories.

Before joining NatCen, Charlotte achieved a First-Class BA in Politics and Sociology at Lancaster University. During her degree, she undertook qualitative and quantitative research design in both disciplines and focused on gender and media, decolonisation, global migration and conspiracy theories. At Lancaster, Charlotte co-published a qualitative analysis of the incel website ‘incelwiki.org’ titled ‘Spitting out the Blackpill: Evaluating how Incels Present Themselves in their own Words on the Incel Wiki’. This piece was in collaboration with the Institute for Strategic Dialogue alongside other interns from Lancaster University, which explored the self-presentation of incels on the website.

At NatCen, Charlotte has worked on a variety of research within and outside of the Crime, Justice and Security team such as drug policy, age assessments, youth justice, violence-against women and girls and has recently published a blog ‘Ripples across the pond’ which covers how far-right groups respond to moderation on social media by migrating to alternative platforms.
