Survey of Childcare and Early Years Providers and COVID-19
This study collects important information needed to understand how the childcare and early years sector has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Results from the research will help the government understand the issues that providers are facing because of the pandemic. This is your chance to have your voice heard and let us know how these unprecedented circumstances have affected you. The research is being carried out by the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) and Frontier Economics on behalf of the Department for Education.

Taking part is easy
Taking part involves completing a 10 to 15 minute online survey at a time that suits you.
You may have previously taken part in an earlier wave of this study in 2020 focusing on the impact of COVID-19, or more recently in the Survey of Childcare and Early Years Providers which took place in March to July 2021.
This survey builds on information collected in those studies. It is important we hear from you again to help us get an accurate picture of how different types of providers are responding to the challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

What will you ask me about?
You will be asked about the current status of your childcare provision, and how your staffing, financial situation and services offered have changed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Do I have to answer all the questions?
Don’t worry – you don’t have to answer any questions you don’t want to, you can just skip on to the next one.
We guard your privacy
We will treat the information you give us in the strictest confidence under the UK General Data Protection Regulation. The results collected will be used for research purposes only. Your personal information will be stored securely and no one but the research team at NatCen and Frontier Economics will be able to access it. At the end of the research, all data will be anonymised before being passed on to the Department for Education and your personal information will be securely deleted.

Your setting has been invited to take part in this research because you previously completed either the Survey of Childcare and Early Years Providers which took place in March to July 2021, or the Survey of Childcare and Early Years Providers and COVID-19 Wave 3 and agreed to be re-contacted.
