Fit to Study
This study is a great opportunity for your Year 8 pupils to work with scientists from the University of Oxford and find out how PE can help their brain work better.
About Fit to Study
Scientists from the University of Oxford and Oxford Brookes University are running an experiment to find out how PE lessons affect the academic performance of Year 8 pupils.
Our researchers are carrying out an independent evaluation to find out what the results are of this experiment.
Click here to download a calendar of the research activities taking place as part of this evaluation.
Around 100 schools are taking part in the study.
Why take part
This is a fantastic opportunity for your pupils to see world class scientists in action and to find out how physical education is linked to how well their brain works.
As a thank you for taking part, each school will receive £500.
What will my school need to do for the NatCen evaluation?
- Distribute information about the evaluation to parents/carers and pupils.
- Agree to be assigned to a control group or a group that will receive the Fit to Study intervention.
- Complete two short web surveys about your school, PE department and any costs associated with delivering Fit to Study.
- Take part in PE lesson observations and staff interviews.
- Help our friendly NatCen researchers run a Maths test with a randomly selected group of 90 Year 8 pupils in the 2018 Summer Term.
Throughout the study our NatCen researcher will provide your school with all the information they need about the process and time table.
We will guard your school's and pupils' privacy
