Once you have received a letter from us, one of our interviewers will contact you in the next week or so. So that you know who they are, all of our interviewers carry photo ID with our logo on it. We understand that you may be busy, so we’ll organise the interview at a time that suits you.
Your interviewer will ask you about a range of topics, such as the activities you enjoy, your financial situation and pension arrangements, your health and any work you do.
For the latest (ninth) wave, you will also be invited to take part in an optional online questionnaire about food and drink.
If you have taken part in ELSA in a previous wave, we will ask you to update information you gave us last time you were interviewed, to see if and how your life has changed.
And don’t worry – you don’t have to answer any questions you don’t want to, we can just skip on to the next one.
Following on from the interview, some of you will be selected to take part in a nurse visit with one of our qualified nurses. Our nurses will take some measurements, like your blood pressure.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to agree to everything at the start. The nurse will explain each measurement or sample.
No need to prepare
There’s no need to prepare for the interview. You don’t need any special knowledge, we just want to hear about your daily life and what you think. Most people agree to be interviewed and enjoy taking part.
