Children’s Services Survey
The Department for Education has commissioned an important new survey to gather information on Early Years & Child Care, Children’s Social Care and Special Educational Needs & Disability.
About the survey
The survey will only take 15-20 minutes and can be completed easily online by more than one person.
The survey takes place twice a year. The findings will be used to help the DfE understand the key issues facing children’s services, and local authorities’ experiences of implementing different policies.
The research will focus on three main policy areas:
- Early Years & Child Care;
- Children’s Social Care; and
- Special Educational Needs & Disability.
Take part now
Your nominated point-of-contact will have received an email inviting your local authority to take part. To complete the survey, please visit www.survey.natcen.ac.uk/childrens-services and enter your authority's unique access code - this was included in the email we sent. The survey will take around 15-20 minutes in total to complete.
You may find it helpful to look at the survey questions before starting the survey, or to share a copy among colleagues to gather information. You can access a spreadsheet containing all of the questions here. Please note that this spreadsheet is for reference only, and you will need to submit your answers via the web survey.
Don't worry if you don't have all the answers, the questionnaire can be completed by one person or lots of people using your local authority’s unique access code.
Nominate a contact
To make sure we are talking to the right person we are inviting Directors of Children’s Services to nominate a suitable person to act as the main point of contact for this survey.
This person might be able to answer all the questions in the survey or will be able to co-ordinate others to do so.
There are two ways you can make your nomination.
- Fill in a quick form.
- Call the project freephone number on 0800 652 4569, and someone will be able to take your details.
We will guard your privacy
The survey is voluntary, but it is vital that as many local authorities as possible participate so that DfE can hear about views and issues from all types of authorities across England. Your answers will be treated in confidence by NatCen and not identified to DfE without explicit permission. The local authority will not be named in any publication resulting from this survey.
We will treat the information you give us in the strictest confidence under the latest data protection legislation. The results collected are used for research purposes only. You will never receive any junk mail as a result of speaking to us. We never pass on your details to other organisations for commercial purposes.
