Victim support services

Our research is helping to improve the support received by victims of crime.

Findings from our research into how support services can measure outcomes for victims of crime have directly fed into the Ministry of Justice's new Victims' Services Commissioning Framework.

The Framework provides information and advice for commissioners of victim support services.

To demonstrate their effectiveness, victims' services are now expected to achieve two key outcomes for victims:

  • To help victims cope with the impact of the crime; and
  • To recover from the harm they've experienced.

The research was qualitative; our researchers carried out case studies with support service providers and conducted in-depth interviews with academic experts. Published literature was also reviewed.
