CASE

Our latent class analysis is helping university and further education fundraising departments measure how well they're performing more accurately.

Universities and FE colleges typically assess how well they're fundraising by comparing themselves with others in their mission groups, such as the Russell Group or Million+. In other words, they compare themselves against universities that roughly speaking share similar origins, ethos and ambitions.

Our latent class analysis suggests that institutions should measure their fundraising performance against universities grouped in a different way.

Using our Ross-CASE survey data, we identified five clusters based on seven key fundraising variables, like the average cash income received, funds secured and the number of donors over three years.

While comparing fundraising performance on the basis of mission groups may give outsiders an overview, our research provides those actually responsible for raising funds more detailed, practicable and comprehensive rankings.
