Vacancies FAQ

Can I send in a speculative CV/application?

Yes, please! We welcome people expressing an interest in working with us and if we don’t have a current vacancy, we will keep your application/CV on file for a nine-month period. Please send your application and state what type of role you are interested in to applications@natcen.ac.uk.

Do you employ candidates who require a visa/work permit?

Yes, we value diversity and are able to sponsor applicants for some positions under the Tier 2 category. Please let us know if you require a work permit at the time when you apply for a position and we will discuss the options with you at an early stage during the recruitment process. For further information, please see the Home Office webpages: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration.

Who should I contact for queries?

Please, in the first instance email us at applications@natcen.ac.uk or telephone us asking for Sufyan Patel on 0207 549 9540. We aim to get back to you within a few working days.

What happens after I have applied/sent in my application?

Once you have sent your application/CV, you will receive an email confirming receipt of your application/CV. We will get in touch with you after the shortlisting panel have informed us of the interview shortlist. The interview process usually involves some testing, dependent on the role and an interview with relevant NatCen staff.

When will my referees be approached?

We will usually contact your referees after your interview and we will notify you when we are ready to contact them. Due to the sensitive work we do and data we hold, we insist on two references verifying the last three years of employment. One of your referees must be your most recent line manager and/or more senior manager.

Do you conduct other checks?

Yes, we will check that applicants are entitled to work in the UK and will ask you to produce evidence to that effect. For some roles, we conduct in addition to seeking references, other checks including DBS checks.

What are the working hours?

Our full-time staff work 35 hours per week and we have very generous flexible working arrangements, including part-time and partial remote working. Our core office hours are 10am-4pm.

Do you have an applicant privacy notice?

Yes, and by submitting your application, you agree to our policy as set out in this document (docx).
