Location: Meetings are held in London
Department: Chief Executive's Office
Application deadline: 1 August 2017
At the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen), we believe that social research has the power to make lives better.
As an independent, not for profit and charitable organisation, we are able to focus our time and energy on meeting our customers’ needs and delivering social research that works for society.
We are now looking for up to three trustees to join our Board over the next 12 months. We are after the best - people who really want to make a difference to our society and are prepared to give their time freely to do so.
The Board of Trustees provides strategic direction and accountability and is chaired by Sir Bob Burgess. Guy Goodwin was appointed in 2016 as the Chief Executive at NatCen.
As well as an understanding of NatCen’s objectives and its work, and a commitment to the role of social research and its contribution to public policy, we are seeking applicants who can bring us top level leadership experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- The Social Sciences;
- Public policy formulation and delivery, gained in a Whitehall Department, devolved administration and/or local government;
- The use of data and/or data science, from private or public sectors;
- The Business and/or Voluntary/Charity Sectors.
Potential Trustees should indicate their main area of expertise and other areas where they have an interest.
Trustees are required to attend 3 or 4 half-day Trustee meetings per year, plus an away day. There may also be additional meetings dedicated to particular topics, including the work of the Board’s committees and meetings with staff. Meetings usually take place in London, but very occasionally at NatCen’s other offices in Edinburgh and Brentwood, Essex.
The Board is keen to ensure that its work reflects the needs of society, and would particularly welcome applications from members of groups currently under-represented on the Board, including women, ethnic minorities and under-45s.
If you believe you have the leadership experience, perspective and qualities we are looking for then we look forward to hearing from you. Please click on the below for further information:
