Senior Researcher (Maternity Cover)
Salary: £26k - £36k (Depending on skills & experience)

We are looking to recruit a Senior Researcher to cover a period of maternity leave. In this role, you will predominantly be involved in leading the development, management and delivery of our survey projects. The post holder will be expected to contribute to all stages of the project, including questionnaire design and development, survey implementation, analysis, report writing and dissemination. These projects are delivered across a range of modes – face-to-face, web, telephone and paper – on varying topics and with different populations.
There will also be opportunities for involvement in our portfolio of Scottish qualitative and mixed method research projects. These include projects which are at the heart of evidence-based policy making in Scotland across a range of subject areas including health, crime and justice and children, young people and families. Contributing to the wider analytical and methodological work of NatCen will also be possible.
While we expect post-holders to have greater experience of survey methods, a basic understanding of qualitative methods is desirable. There is an opportunity to work on projects across both disciplines.
Applicants should have a good honours degree or postgraduate qualification and an understanding of and commitment to social research. It would also be desirable for applicants to have a social sciences degree with a research component, and undergraduate or postgraduate research experience would be an advantage for these posts.
Significant experience of quantitative social research is essential, whether gained in an academic, government, other public sector, voluntary sector or market research setting (though additional training and development will also be provided). Knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following key substantive/policy themes would be an advantage: children and families, education, public health, crime and justice.
Senior Researchers are normally expected to work on more than one project at a time, and the ability to work well under pressure and to manage deadlines is essential.
