Nilufer Rahim joined NatCen Social Research in April 2009 and has since led on and contributed to a range of qualitative research studies. She is currently managing research into the new Jobseekers and Employment Support Allowance Sanctions Regime for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the evaluation of the Mandatory Gateway for Civil Legal Aid for the Ministry of Justice.
Nilufer's background and interests lie in the fields of unemployment, benefits, poverty and employment relations. Studies she has recently managed include the evaluation of the Trailblazer of Support for the Very Long Term Unemployed for the DWP, research into experiences of debt for Islington Council and an evaluation of the Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures for Acas.
Nilufer is experienced in conducting research using a range of qualitative methodologies including in-depth interviews, focus groups and deliberative workshops. She also co-teaches the NatCen Learning Moderating Focus Groups course.
Before joining NatCen, Nilufer worked as a researcher at the Centre for Economic and Social Inclusion.
